How do I log into ECWeb?

In your web browser, go to vaww.ecweb.ethics.va.gov

On the Login screen:
  1. Enter your NT Username (the same username you use to log into your computer) and ECWeb Password.
  2. Click the Submit button.
Then, on the Welcome screen:
  1. Select your Facility and Role
  2. Click the Submit button.

What if I forget my password?

You should contact an Administrator Consultant at your facility. He or she will reset your password to Password.1, which you should then change as soon as you log back in.

If you are the only Administrator Consultant at your facility, you should contact the National Center for Ethics in Health Care for help resetting your password.

How do I change my password?

From the Main Menu:
  1. Click Edit User Profile.
  2. Enter a new password in Password. Note that all passwords must be at least 8 characters long, and must include:
    • Both upper and lower case letters
    • At least one special character
    • At least one number
  3. Click the Save button.

How do I log into the training area of ECWeb to practice?

  1. Click Enter the training area of ECWeb. Do not enter any actual consultation information in the training area.

What kinds of data can I enter into the training area of ECWeb?

Do NOT enter any real data into the training area of ECWeb. This includes:
  • No names of real people (even public figures)
  • No names that may be copyrighted, such as Donald Duck or Homer Simpson
DO use names such as Doctor One or Sample Consultant.

How can I send myself a reminder about something I need to do?

  1. Open the consult you want to be reminded about.
  2. Click the reminders command (in the upper right-hand corner of the ECWeb screen).
  3. Complete all of the required fields in the window that appears.

How do I attach reference information such as a journal article to a consultation record?

  1. Open the consult to which you want to attach an item.
  2. Click attachments (in the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
  3. Complete all of the required fields in the window that appears.

How do I refer a consultation to another consultant when I won't be available to handle it?

  1. Open the consultation you want to re-assign.
  2. Click the refer consult command (in the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
  3. Complete all of the required fields in the window that appears.

When I am creating a new User Profile as an Administrator Consultant, how can I determine someone's NT Username?

You can look up the NT Username for each person who has an account on the VA network in Outlook. Just:
  1. Open the Address Book.
  2. Select the name of the person you want in the Global Address List.
  3. Click the Properties button.
  4. You'll find your username on the General tab, in the Alias field.
