NCEHC Programs and Initatives
The Center offers various programs and initiatives to help facilities develop their own responsive health care ethics programs. These programs assist facilities and Veterans when faced with ethical dilemmas about health care choices. |
|
National Ethics Consultation Service |
We provide consultation on questions of health care ethics to VHA leaders and facility-based ethics program staff. Veterans, families, VA staff, and involved parties at field facilities can seek consultation from their local VA medical center. Every VA medical center has an ethics consultation service. |
IntegratedEthics |
IntegratedEthics® (IE) is a comprehensive approach to managing ethics in health care organizations. It represents a radical departure from the traditional ethics committee model. The goal of IE is the continuous improvement of ethics quality. |
Life-sustaining Treatment Decisions Initiative |
The Life-Sustaining Treatment Decisions Initiative (LSTDI) is a national VHA quality improvement project led by the National Center for Ethics in Health Care (NCEHC). The aim of the initiative is to promote personalized, proactive, patient-driven care for Veterans with serious illness by eliciting, documenting, and honoring their values, goals, and preferences. |
Goals of Care Conversations Skills Training for Clinicians |
These interactive training modules help clinicians improve their communication skills and conduct goals of care conversations with high-risk patients. |
