Mary Beth Foglia, RN PhD MA, is an experienced health services administrator and ethicist who joined the Center in 2001. Dr. Foglia received her ethics training at the University of Washington in Seattle where she studied under the guidance of Albert R Jonsen, PhD. Prior to joining the Ethics Center, Dr. Foglia planned, administered, and evaluated a variety of health care services and programs. She also received training in quality management and quality improvement methodology and often credits QI thinking with preserving her career in health care. Dr. Foglia is on faculty in the Department of Medical History and Ethics and the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Department of Health Services at the University of Washington where she teaches organizational ethics to health care executives. Dr. Foglia’s research interests include mixed method approaches to understanding the influence of the organizational environment on the capacity of individuals to act in a manner that is consistent with ethical norms or standards.
